Maria Körber, daughter of stage director Veit Harlan and actress Hilde Körber, was born and raised in Berlin. She attended drama school at the Berliner Hebbel-Theater with Ernst Schröder and took private lessons from Marlise Ludwig. Maria made her stage debut in Sartre's 'Die Fliegen' in l948. She was offered a first steady working engagement at the Staatstheater Oldenburg.
