He is best known for writing the novels "The Half-Life" (2004) and "Rain Dragon" (2012), and for writing the short stories or novels for the films "Old Joy" (2006), "Wendy and Lucy" (2008), and "First Cow" (2019), all directed by Kelly Reichardt, with whom he co-wrote the screenplays.
